Dr. Igor F. Palacios was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He received a medical surgeon degree with Magna cum laude honors in 1969, from the Central University of Venezuela, Caracas. Dr. Palacios completed his initial training program at the University Hospital in Caracas, before moving to Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, USA in 1974. In 1990, he was appointed Director of the Interventional Cardiology Program. He is Director of Interventional Cardiology Emeritus at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Palacios is an internationally recognized expert in the field of interventional cardiology and is a pioneer in the field of percutaneous interventions for structural heart disease. As a result of his research and clinical trials he has published extensively, authoring over 427 papers and 31 book chapters. He is a founding member of the Latin American Society for Interventional Cardiology (SOLACI) and the Igor Palacios Interventional Cardiology Society, a group of physicians inspired by his career, leadership and committed to the advancement of the Interventional and Structural Cardiology field in Latin America through the development of education, training and research programs.
