Mrudula Munagala, MD

Dr. Munagala joined as Assist Professor of Medicine in the division of cardiology at University of Miami in April of 2020 and she brought a vast cross-institutional experience in managing patients with advanced heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and mechanical circulatory support. She earned her medical degree from Sri Venkateswara Medical College in India. She then completed a residency in internal medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She pursued a fellowship in Heart Failure & Pulmonary Hypertension at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh prior to joining cardiovascular disease fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She joined UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center for advanced training in heart failure, mechanical circulatory support devices, and transplant. Following completion of her fellowship, she joined Integris Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK as Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiologist. She later moved to Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ and then joined as Medical Director of Heart Failure, Pulmonary Hypertension and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Heart Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She played a central role in building an Advanced Heart Failure & Mechanical Circulatory Support Program including Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) programs in Eastern Oklahoma. She also built first comprehensive pulmonary hypertension program in eastern Oklahoma and first integrated cardiac amyloid program in the state of Oklahoma. She was instrumental in implementing “Get with the Guideline” initiative and Transition of Care Program in heart failure patients and achieved Silver and Gold status. She has served as primary Investigator on several clinical studies and authored book chapters and articles in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Medical Clinics of North America and Transplantation. She has been serving as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Heart Failure.
