Dr. Engel earned his medical degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. He then received advanced training at University of Texas Southwestern through fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He completed further training with a fellowship in Structural Heart Interventions at Henry Ford Hospital where he worked with pioneers in the field of structural heart disease. Throughout his training he has received many accolades and awards for his clinical work, research activities, and teaching.
Currently, he is a senior staff physician at the Henry Ford Center for Structural Heart disease and his practices consists of performing CHIP PCI, as well as complex transcatheter interventions for the aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valular disease. He also performs left atrial appendage occlusion, PFO/ASD/VSD closures, mechanical support devices (different ECMO modalities including LAVA ECMO, transcaval configuarations, etc), percutaneous thrombectomy for acute pulmonary embolism, and thrombectomy of cardiac thrombi and vegetations with the AngioVac system (both right and left sided procedures).
