Dr Mitrani is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons and did his Cardiology/Cardiac EP training at Indiana University. He oversees the Cardiac EP Fellowship program at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital Campus. As an Academic Cardiac Electrophysiologist, Dr Mitrani treats patients with simple and complex cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia and syncope. He performs the full gamut of cardiac ablation procedures as well as cardiac electrical device implants.
Dr Mitrani has been Principal Investigator for trials involving algorithms to improve ablation outcomes in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation. He participated in NIH sponsored multicenter trials such as the landmark CABANA Trial, a study to compare catheter ablation versus pharmacologic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation. He has published studies on cryoballoon vs radiofrequency ablation for atrial fibrillation as well.
Dr Mitrani has been an active investigator in the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute. He has performed preclinical and clinical research into the anti-arrhythmic effects from implantation of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells He has been involved in various NIH-sponsored trials including the CONCERT-HF Trial, a study of Combination of Mesenchymal and C-kit+ Cardiac Stem Cells as Regenerative Therapy for Heart Failure (CONCERT-HF; NCT02501811).
He also has a number of papers regarding disparities of care in the arena of Cardiac Electrophysiology. Overall, he has co-authored 100 original manuscripts and 20 book chapters.
